New face at FC Groningen: Pelle Clement signs a two-year contract

FC Groningen has signed Pelle Clement, strengthening its team. The 30-year-old midfielder played for Sparta Rotterdam for the last three seasons. Clement's contract at Rotterdam was terminated, allowing him to join Groningen without a transfer fee. He has signed a two-year deal and will join training this week itself.
‘I have usually played in the middle of the country and am now looking forward to relocating to the north-Netherlands with my young family,’ Clement said via Groningen's club channels. ‘I am very happy and excited to be here. The stories I hear about the club and the city fascinate me. It is a good environment to work and live here.’Groningen have already signed NEC goalkeeper Riek Janse, brother of former Ajax loanee Dez Janse. In addition, the club has also activated the option to buy on Travis Hurney, who was previously on loan from Newcastle United, and Tiago Landon has been loaned from PSV for another year. Groningen will begin preparations for the new season on Saturday. Coach Dick Lukkien's team will open the new Eredivisie season with a home match against FC Utrecht on 9 August.
