Should England include Ethan Bamber in their bowling squad in Test cricket? The Warwickshire star top-scored with 69 wickets in the County Championship in 2026, helping his team win the Division One title. Bamber, who is the equivalent of Ollie Robinson, relies on his accuracy and skill, not just pace and aggression. Since the trend of wicketkeepers standing near the bowlers has increased, Bamber may get a chance to be involved in international cricket.

Michael Atherton of Sky Sports said, "A few years ago, you wouldn't think so. But now everyone is paying attention to the wobble seam and the wicketkeepers are standing up. So never say never." Bamber has taken 308 wickets in 89 first-class matches, at an average of less than 27. He recorded match figures of 9–94 in the Warwickshire victory. He took five-wicket hauls four times in the 2026 Championship season.

Be it Robinson or Sam Cooke, who is currently playing as Robinson's understudy, Bamber could potentially be seen in the role. Warwickshire captain Ed Barnard said, "He's a fantastic player and wants to make the most of every bit of talent he has." "If that ship was ever in port, it's certainly gone now. I'm thinking about how I can contribute to Warwickshire next year," Bamber said at the Professional Cricketers' Association awards in London recently.

His bowling style can definitely play a role. He never misses. There is no comparison to his skills. If there is a place for him, he will definitely do a good job. England's bowling shone in the 3-0 win against Pakistan this summer, with Robinson taking 21 wickets at under 9 and Archer taking 12 at 26.66.

Now, from December 17, these fast bowlers will return to red-ball cricket when England play a three-Test series against South Africa. The series will have games in Johannesburg, Centurion and Cape Town.

What will happen next

Considering Bamber's bowling style and recent performances, the England selection committee may consider including him in the upcoming Test series. If Bamber gets a chance, his accuracy and experience could prove vital for the team. According to Warwickshire captain Ed Barnard, it is important to make proper use of Bamber's talent, which highlights his future prospects.
