Ricky Van Volswinkel returns to his young girlfriend VV Vaudenberg: 'To give something back'
Ricky van Volswinkel, the 37-year-old striker, has returned to his youth side VV Vaudenberg after announcing the end of his professional career. He wants to give something back to the club that has always supported him.
Ricky Van Volswinkel has now found a new club. The 37-year-old striker has returned to his youth girlfriend VV Vaudenberg. Woudenberg is the club where Van Volswinkel's football journey began, and he played here until 2001. After 25 years, Van Volswinkel is now back at Vaudenberg, a local level amateur football club. He said, 'The people of the village have always been with me in my life and they have always supported me. Now I feel like I can give something back to the club. Van Volswinkel also explained that he cannot be present at every training and match. 'I want to maintain my independence so I can do other things. I put this to the group of players. Everyone is happy with my arrival. But will this still be the case if I don't train during the week and go on the field as first substitute on Saturday? This can cause problems for players who train regularly. He further said, 'Now that I am fit, I can make an impact on my teammates and hopefully make some additional contributions. Last season I also held a coaching role at FC Twente. That's how I see it here too. This will be a time for both parties to find the right balance. It could be a great season, but we'll check back every now and then to see how things are going. My plan is to start the season and finish it off. I hate to say I can't do it.'
