A year ago, Harrison Biggins was not one of the main players in the team at Shrewsbury Town. Now, he has become a key player for Newport County, where his performances have drawn praise. The 30-year-old midfielder is set to make his 13th appearance for Newport during the 2026-27 season, where they will face Colchester United in League Two. Newport coach Hayden Molins, himself a former midfielder, has been impressed by Biggins's effectiveness. "He's a very unselfish player and a great addition to the team because he can play a lot of different positions," he said.

Biggins played just nine times in all competitions last season, but at Newport he has rediscovered not only his form but also his love for the game. He came to Newport on loan in January and helped save Christian Fuchs's team, after which he decided to join Newport permanently last summer.

"It's been great so far. I've enjoyed it since the first day of pre-season. We've all worked very hard and come together as a team," Biggins said. Under Molins, Newport have made a better start than expected. After surviving the final day last season, they have had a much better start this time. They have already kept three clean sheets and have been unable to lose any matches at Rodney Parade.

"Teams know when they come to Rodney Parade that they're not going to get an easy game," Biggins said. Now everyone can see the change in his mentality. He proved his excellent form by scoring a spectacular goal against Salford City on 1 September, where he fired from 77.7 yards. "In this game I spend a lot of time in my own half, and when the ball came to me I decided to give it a try," he said.

This renewed identity of Biggins is proving important for Newport as well. Last season they managed to survive the last day, but now they have a new energy. Under Molins' leadership, Biggins and other players have adapted to playing with a new mindset.

What will happen next

Newport County now prepare for their next match against Colchester United, where Harrison Biggins' role will be even more important. The team has already kept three clean sheets this season, and they will be looking to maintain their undefeated status at Rodney Parade. With Biggins' form and the team's collective efforts, Newport's season outlook looks positive.
