Manchester United recently shared a controversial video, which shows Cristiano Ronaldo in a position that shows his lack of effort. The video, posted on the social media platform on October 5, shows a moment from a match in the 2021-2022 season. Ronaldo was seen in the video showing that he was not trying hard enough to get the ball, while his teammate Edinson Cavani made a brilliant effort and put pressure on the opposition defender to get the ball back.

Man Uted commented on the video, "This is a noirish effort." However, the motive behind Man Uted sharing this video is not clear. Portuguese newspaper O Jogo noted that the video could be a jab towards Ronaldo. Many people have criticized Ronaldo for the video, while praising Cavani's hard work. One viewer wrote, "This video says it all. This is why Portugal plays better without Ronaldo."

This video has surfaced at a time when there is a serious dispute going on between Ronaldo and the Portugal national team. On September 30, 41-year-old Ronaldo left the training camp for no apparent reason with the team still having two matches left. This incident raises questions about Ronaldo's professionalism and his commitment to the team.

The controversy began when Jorge Jesus, Portugal's new coach, called Ronaldo up for four Nations League group stage matches. Initially, it was decided that Ronaldo would play in the first and fourth matches. In the first match, Ronaldo played in the starting eleven and scored a goal but the goal was disallowed. In the next match, while there was talk of bringing Ronaldo into the field, the coach fielded other players in his place.

As the controversy escalated, Ronaldo decided not to return to training camp on 29 September. Jorge Jesus said in the press conference that he has no problem with Ronaldo, but he also said that it is in his hands who he plays. Ronaldo expressed deep displeasure over this.

On 30 September, Ronaldo left the training camp, while the president of the Portuguese Football Federation and the coach tried to stop him. Ronaldo promised that he would tell "the truth" at the appropriate time. Despite this, the matter is not affecting the team much as Portugal have won their first four Nations League matches.

The controversy has damaged Ronaldo's image, especially as he has been involved in controversies during his second stint with Manchester United. He had already courted controversy over his relationship with former coach Eric ten Hag. Taking all this together, Ronaldo's career is at a crossroads.

What will happen next

It now remains to be seen how Man United will handle this controversy and how their relationship with Ronaldo develops. If the dispute between Ronaldo and Portugal escalates, it could have a negative impact on his performances and Man Utd's season outlook. Football fans and analysts will be keeping a close eye on this situation to see if Ronaldo will be able to redefine his role.
